Opus Platinum Wedges
I’m really pumped to share my first impressions of the new Callaway Opus and Opus Platinum wedges. For today’s review, I’ve gone with the Opus Platinum 60-degree, 10-degree bounce with an S grind—this grind is pretty much the jack-of-all-trades, perfect for players who prefer to keep their clubface square to the target in various situations.
The Platinum model has some cool tungsten tucked into the top line, which helps launch the ball lower, but still gives you great control and spin around the greens—exactly what I need for my wedge play. The look is sleek, and I’m definitely impressed so far.
With the all-new Spin Gen Face Technology, these wedges are built to provide the ultimate short game action and control. After countless hours of tweaking every detail with some of the best players in the world, Callaway has designed a wedge that sits perfectly behind the ball, ready for any shot you throw at it.
Spin Gen combines three key elements: a tighter pitch for more grooves on the face, an offset groove-in-groove to boost spin when opening the face, and a new aggressive face blast that gives you extra bite on partial shots. Together, they deliver crisp, tour-level spin, ensuring your wedge game is top-notch.
And the grind? Well, that’s where it gets really interesting. With Opus, Callaway has nailed a full lineup of sole shapes to suit every swing, whether you're looking for something narrow or wide. You’ve got the popular S grind, the forgiving W, the versatile C, and the Tour-favorite T grind—there’s a fit for every player.
The Opus Platinum isn’t just another wedge; it's a true leap forward, thanks to the fusion of metal injection molding (MiM) and tungsten. MiM allows for unparalleled precision in wedge construction, dialing in the perfect touch and feel. This is next-level wedge technology, and I’m definitely excited to see where it takes my short game.
